Considering Preferences

Once you have accessed information through Job Futures you will then have some valuable facts about programs and institutions. You should then weigh this information against some of your preferences. You should consider:
Do you want to go school for one year? Two years? Five years or more?

Do you prefer a certain way to obtain your education and training? Some ways that expand learning outside the traditional classroom include: apprenticeship, a co-op program, competency-based learning, distance learning (including multi-media and correspondence). Click on any one of these for further information.

Do you prefer a certain type of learning institution, or in a certain location? These can include the universities, SIAST, regional colleges or private vocational schools, among others.

You may also want to keep in mind the Interprovincial Agreements, which enable students to study needed occupations in other provinces if the course is not offered in Saskatchewan.

Are you a mature student you might want to consider your options regarding Recognition of Prior Learning. Any prior learning, or work experience could be considered for credit towards your selected programs.

If you have collected all the factual information from Saskatchewan Job Futures and have considered the above factors, you may have come up with a decision. This is a big decision so take your time. In fact you may have selected a few programs of interest and you may need to go through one or more of the previous steps one more time.

If you have made your decision then you should now know:

the program;
its length;
the delivery method;
entrance requirements and academic pre-requisites;
the institution, including the location.
