Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council

Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council, or STEC (division of Tourism Saskatchewan), National Occupational Standards provide a model for effective training. These standards, developed with the co-operation of tourism related industry professionals, are designed to provide guidelines for the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to achieve competent, professional performance in a number of key service occupations.


Written in an easy-to-follow format, standards are a valuable guide and can be used to:

  • Provide the basis for personal and professional development;
  • Ensure customers’ needs are met;
  • Conduct effective staff recruitment, training and evaluation;
  • Design effective training programs, and
    Provide the basis for the national certification process as administered by STEC.
