Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council,
or STEC (division of Tourism Saskatchewan), National
Occupational Standards provide a model for effective training.
These standards, developed with the co-operation of tourism
related industry professionals, are designed to provide guidelines
for the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to achieve
competent, professional performance in a number of key service
occupations.
Written in an easy-to-follow format, standards are a valuable
guide and can be used to:
Provide the basis for personal and professional development;
Ensure customers’ needs are met;
Conduct effective staff recruitment, training and evaluation;
Design effective training programs, and
Provide the basis for the national certification process as
administered by STEC.
STEC has 26 skill profile charts. The purpose of this material
is to provide an overview of the National Occupational Standards.
