Employment Growth and Occupational Opportunities
Employment in Saskatchewan is expected to increase by 3% over
the five year period from 2000 to 2005.
It's difficult to accurately predict what jobs will be in demand
in the future and where that demand will occur. But we can speculate
on potential areas for future job openings. We do this by studying
past economic and labour market trends. We can also make assumptions
about new job creation and how many people will leave their
jobs due to retirement or death.
Saskatchewan is expected to see over 44,000 job openings over
the five year period from 2000 to 2005 . This figure doesn't
take into account any shortages or surpluses of workers.
From 1999 to 2001, the provincial labour market varied. It
performed well in 2000 with an increase of 5,000 people employed
compared to 1999, but dropped in 2001 compared to 2000 by 12,700
jobs.
