The profile of the Aboriginal population in Saskatchewan is
different to that of the rest of the population. That will have
significant impact on the province’s employment picture
in the future.
If you are a Registered Indian, Métis or Inuit person,
you can look forward to more job opportunities as a result of
population trends if you are prepared with education or training.
The Aboriginal population includes all people who identified
with one or more Aboriginal groups, including North American
Indian, Métis and Inuit for the 1996 Census. It also
includes those who reported that they were Registered/Treaty
Indians or Band/First Nation members.
In 1996, 75,200 North American Indian and 36,500 Metis people
lived in Saskatchewan. This made for a total Aboriginal population
of 11,700, 11% of the total provincial population.
