By being aware of the roles that education and the demand for
skills play in the labour market, you can make sure that your
qualifications meet the needs of employers.
A labour force with sufficient education and skills is vital
for our economy as a whole. Your individual economy also benefits
from a marketable education and skills that are in demand.
This section discusses how education levels influence economic
growth and the rate of employment.
Education Levels
In Saskatchewan, the proportion of the working age population
(15 to 64 years of age) with a post-secondary education has
increased from 32% in 1990 to 40% in 2000.
However, in all but the 55 to 64 age group, Saskatchewan has
a lower percentage of the population with a post-secondary education
compared to Canada as a whole.
There has been a growing demand for skilled workers in the
Saskatchewan labour force, reflected in the type of employment
growth over the past decade. Workers with either some or completed
post-secondary education accounted for 95% of net job growth
from 1990 to 2000.
