A labour force with sufficient education and skills is vital for our economy as a whole. Your individual economy also benefits from a marketable education and skills that are in demand.

This section discusses how education levels influence economic growth and the rate of employment.

Education Levels

In Saskatchewan, the proportion of the working age population (15 to 64 years of age) with a post-secondary education has increased from 32% in 1990 to 40% in 2000.

However, in all but the 55 to 64 age group, Saskatchewan has a lower percentage of the population with a post-secondary education compared to Canada as a whole.

There has been a growing demand for skilled workers in the Saskatchewan labour force, reflected in the type of employment growth over the past decade. Workers with either some or completed post-secondary education accounted for 95% of net job growth from 1990 to 2000.
