Off to a Great Start - Orientation Checklist

 

The final step in a successful recruitment is giving your new employee a great start in his or her new job. After you have hired your new employee, it is really important to make sure that you spend the time you need to make your investment work out. Here’s a checklist for orienting your new employee.

Orientation isn’t over at the end of the first week. Make sure you set some goals, have a training plan, and do some follow-up in the first six months to make sure that things are on track.


 

Checklist

Introduce to co-workers

Location of washroom

Coffee

Parking

Hours of operation, coffee breaks, lunch

Complete payroll and benefits forms

Provide information about benefits, vacation policies, earned days off, etc.

Provide and review copy of personnel and operational policies

Advise about regular meetings to attend, reports required

Provide a training plan and add employee’s requests to plan

Introduce to suppliers, major customers

Take out for lunch the first day

Set goals: for first month, first three months

Follow up on progress regularly, until performance appraisal

Introduce employee and family to the community (for employees new to the community)
